Senior and Intermediate Archaeologist

$30 – $42 hr

Millennia provides archaeological services to a wide variety of clients in British Columbia including First Nations, governments, Crown corporations, and private companies and individuals. We are a small company of approximately 20 employees with a collaborative and team-based work environment. Millennia’s office is located close to downtown Victoria, directly adjacent to the Galloping Goose Regional Trail, and near major transit corridors with year-round walking, biking, and public transit friendly commuting options. Most of Millennia’s work is on southern Vancouver Island, but we undertake projects across British Columbia.

Opportunity

Millennia is looking to expand our team of permanent and temporary full-time Senior and Intermediate Archaeologist positions. Key responsibilities will vary between the positions and may include:

  • Fieldwork including survey, monitoring, and data recovery excavation;
  • Project budget and milestone tracking and management;
  • Applying for, holding, and fulfilling conditions of Heritage Conservation Act permits
  • Coordinating with field staff, GIS staff, and senior managers;
  • QAQC of own and other’s work;
  • Field preparations and logistical support;
  • Provincial site inventory form preparation or review;
  • Writing, review and editing of AOA, PFR, AIA interim and final reports;
  • Proposal and cost estimate preparation;
  • Routine office tasks; and,
  • Liaison with clients, First Nations, and regulators.

Your Education, Credentials and Skills

  • A Bachelor’s degree in archaeology or anthropology;
  • BC Archaeology Branch approved Field Directors (as per Bulletin 17). Those that can demonstrate that they are very close to obtaining this will also be considered;
  • Senior positions need to be eligible to hold permits, with preference to candidates with province-wide permit holding status;
  • Canadian citizen or valid work permit;
  • A valid BC driver’s licence (Class 5 or higher);
  • A willingness to travel and spend time away from home;
  • Compliance with current Millennia Safe Work Procedures;
  • WCB OFA Level 1 (transportation endorsement an asset);
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Ability to solve problems;
  • Experience tracking/managing multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Ability to manage your time and set priorities to meet project deadlines;
  • Able to conduct fieldwork under strenuous conditions and rough terrain;
  • Experience creating, tracking, and managing budgets;
  • Experience writing and editing technical reports;
  • Familiarity with the Heritage Conservation Act and current BC Archaeology Branch policies and bulletins.

Archaeologist

  • QAQC of own work; providing peer review of documents;
  • Field preparations and logistical support;
  • Provincial site inventory form preparation and review;
  • Writing draft AOA, PFR, AIA interim and final reports;
  • Proposal and cost estimate preparation under direction of Project Managers;
  • Routine office tasks;
  • Additional tasks, depending on performance and experience, may include:
    • Liaison with clients, First Nations, and regulators; and,
    • Project budget tracking and management.

Your Education, Credentials and Skills

  • Candidates with fieldwork experience in BC completed under HCA permit will be given preference;
  • Canadian citizen or valid work permit;
  • A valid BC driver’s licence (Class 5 or higher) with clean abstract;
  • A willingness to travel and spend time away from home;
  • Compliance with current Millennia Safe Work Procedures;
  • WCB OFA Level 1 (transportation endorsement an asset);
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Ability to solve problems;
  • Able to conduct fieldwork under strenuous conditions and rough terrain; and
  • Familiarity with the Heritage Conservation Act and current BC Archaeology Branch policies and bulletins.
